Many people have questions about metal roofs

Below we answer some of those metal roof questions:

We are currently completing a standing seam metal roof on a major addition. The original house had a slate roof with multiple areas that were leaking.

We removed the slate and installed synthetic underlayment and ice and water shield to the original deck.
The homeowner chose a CertainTeed asphalt shingle to mimic the look of slate in a color that coordinates nicely with the addition roof.

What exactly is a standing seam metal roof?

Are there non standing seam roofs?
What is the alternative? Is there a non standing seam metal roof ?
Standing seam roofs are a traditional metal roof style. Corrugated metal roofing is generally used in agriculture and industrial settings.
Ok, so all residential homes use standing seam
Question: do materials mater?
Do metal roofs come in a good / better / best materials?
We use Galvelume. It resists corrosion.
Aluminum dents from weather incidents rather easily, and untreated steel rusts.
